Support Ladder Companies, particularly within the context of FDNY Hazardous Materials operations, are trained to the Technician I level. This level of training encompasses a comprehensive understanding of hazardous materials and the necessary procedures to safely respond to incidents involving such substances.

Technician I responders have the skills required to assess the situation and take appropriate actions in the event of a hazardous materials incident, including implementing containment strategies and supporting the overall response effort without directly entering the hot zone. Their training allows them to work closely with Haz-Mat teams to help stabilize the incident and ensure safety for themselves and others involved.

While other levels such as Operations Level, Technician II, or Technician III extend training further in specific areas or operational capabilities, the SOC Support Ladder Companies are specifically equipped with the Technician I skill set to effectively contribute to hazard mitigation efforts.
